چکیده

The bacteriostatic effect of streptomycin on E. coli and M. luberculosis 607 and H37RV can be antagonized by a number of purines and pyrimidines. These include xanthine, uric acid, allantoin, alloxan, and parabanic acid. It seemed possible that these compounds might give rise to urea. If such were the case, urea should antagonize the effect of streptomycin and the effect should be demonstrable sooner than when the urea precursors are used. These two conditions were fulfilled and the table shows the reversal

The inactivation of streptomycin by cyanate.

The reversal of the bacteriostatic action of streptomycin for certain mycobacteria as well as Escherichia coli by urea has been the subject of a preliminary note by Fitzgerald and Bernheim (1). At that time the possibility was considered that urea was being directly assimilated by the organisms. Subsequent work to elucidate the nature of this phenomenon has revealed that the agent which causes ...

Reversal of the Streptomycin Injury of Escherichia Coli

The number of viable Escherichia coli in a young, actively growing culture is decreased approximately 99.9 per cent by a 30 second exposure to 25 phig. streptomycin/ml. The injury induced by the antibiotic is only potentially lethal, however, and may be reversed by subculture within 5 minutes into fresh culture medium, NH(4)NO(3), NH(4)Cl, (NH(4))(2)HPO(4), NH(4) citrate, and NH(4) tartrate. Su...

Preparation of Solid Superacid SO42-/ZnO-TiO2 and Its Action on Synthesis of Dimethyl Carbonate from Urea and Methanol

SO42-/ZnO-TiO2 catalyst was prepared by sulfating ZnO-TiO2 powders with H2SO4 solution. The catalyst was characterized by XRD, IR and Hammett indicator. The catalyst showed strong acidity(H0 ≦-16.0). The optimum conditions are found that the calcination temperature is 823K and the so...
